Support for Artists
Over the past several decades, the DSG has established personal relationships with numerous artists. In particularly difficult circumstances, the Society has raised donations to provide direct support to individual artists and their families.
Volunteering with the Zimbabwe Workcamps Association
The Zimbabwe Workcamps Association arranges volunteering projects based on mutual learning. Volunteers from Zimbabwe, the Southern African region and Germany support local initiatives in areas such as education, inclusion and sustainable agriculture. They live with host families or at project centres, with intercultural exchange at the heart of their work.
MutARE Tales
This project supports young artists in Mutare through performances, workshops, mentoring and networking. It aims to develop their creative abilities and provide sustainable professional prospects. The DSG assists with organising and financing projects locally.
Vocational Training Support
This programme provides disadvantaged young people in Zimbabwe with scholarships for practical vocational training at Young Africa in Chitungwiza. Participants are selected by the Zimbabwe Workcamps Association and subsequently contribute their newly acquired skills to community projects.
PORET – Agroecology in a Threatened Environment
Many smallholder farming families in the Chimanimani region face drought, depleted soils and the consequences of climate change. PORET promotes agroecological practices such as water harvesting, permaculture and the production of organic fertiliser.
Supporting Schools and School Attendance
Zimbabwean parents place great importance on their children’s education, but school fees are often a considerable obstacle. The DSG supports individuals and organisations that enable children to attend school. A new school named Eldonaire is currently being established in the Masvingo region.
