Support for Artists
As everywhere in the world, artists rarely have a regular income. School fees, for example, are therefore always a major challenge for artists’ families. The DSG e.V. currently pays the school fees for four children from artists’ families.
In a country without health insurance, an illness or an accident often has devastating consequences.
While unloading a large block of stone in Chitungwiza, the artist Dickson Shinga was so badly injured that his leg had to be amputated. The DSG e.V. supported his rehabilitation and enabled him to obtain a prosthetic leg, so that he can work as a sculptor again – albeit with some limitations.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the art trade with Zimbabwe collapsed almost completely, and with it the artists’ entire income. On several occasions, the DSG e.V. was able to support groups of artists, for example in Tengenenge, by buying food for them.
